Dr. K is a board certified child/adolescent psychiatrist who has worked with youth and families to address and manage their mental health care for over a decade. Suicide is currently the 2nd leading cause of death in 10-24 year olds and the #1 cause of death in 14- and 15-year-olds. The first two parts of the 3-part "More than Sad" series discussed depression and suicide. In this 3rd part, we will talk about ways to treat depression. Dr. K will discuss what we can be done before seeing a mental health provider to try to manage depression symptoms, a bit about behavioral therapy and lastly, a discussion on medication. He'll also briefly discuss the potential issues with anti-depressants and some of the things you should consider before going down the anti-depressant route.

We are experiencing a mental health crisis in the United States and globally. It is estimated that nearly 20% of youth globally have mental health needs. Over 50% of those with mental health concerns (including depression, anxiety, and suicidal thinking) are not getting those needs met.
Dr. K is a child/adolescent psychiatrist with over 10 years of clinical practice seeing and treating kids and adolescents. This podcast is a way to help share information about pediatric mental health for youth and families to help understand the who, what, where, and how of mental health. Topics will range from mental health basics to different diagnoses and treatment options, navigating levels of care, and others.
